Keeping Fees Reasonable

As you explore comparable services available in South Florida, you will notice that our fees are  lower than what the average fee is for this service in our community.

If you find even our fees to not be manageable, one option you have is to be tested at a training institute such as:

Broward: Nova Southeastern University (954) 262-5730
Miami:     Goodman Center (305) 592-7860
                University of Miami (305) 284-4265

INSURANCE COVERAGE

We have found that most insurance plans do not cover psychoeducational testing since the testing is related to school/education issues. Insurance typically covers medical or psychiatric disorders. However, plans can vary. There are a few plans that have partial or comprehensive coverage for testing.

Of course, gifted/IQ  testing is not related to any disease or diagnosis, so it is unlikely to be allowed by insurance. However, you can always ask your insurer.

We suggest that you call your insurance carrier if you would like to determine if psychoeducational testing is a covered service. However, be specific if you want to increase the chances of getting accurate information. For example, if you want testing for a learning disorder, ADHD, etc., check with your insurer about the following codes and tests. If your insurance card has a separate phone number for mental/nervous disorders, call that number.

Possible Diagnosis:

315.9 is diagnostic code for LEARNING DISORDER
314.01 is one of several diagnostic codes for ADHD
315.00 is diagnostic code for READING DISORDER

Procedure code for most testing is 96101 (5-6 hours of testing plus written report = approx. 9 hours of service)

96101 Wechsler or equivalent IQ Test
96101 Gordon Diagnostic System (computer test for attention)
96101 Woodcock Johnson Psychoeducational Battery-selected clusters
96101 Bender Gestalt Test 2
96103 Conners Behavior Rating Scale-Parent
96103 Conners’ Teachers’ Checklists
96101 Children’s Apperception Test
96116 Preparation of Written Report

Although our office does not accept assignment insurance benefits for payment, if you do have coverage, ask your insurer for a list of in-network psychologists.

Our office can also provide you with an insurance statement if you wish to send it to your insurer yourself, Health Savings Account, FSA, etc.

These may or may not be the tests given to your child. It is a list of the tests typically used.
